Overview

New Discovery 4 has a more progressive and contemporary exterior, giving it a refined presence on and off road.

New Discovery 4 features an enhanced, more tactile interior. Innovative design maximises space while flexible seating configurations afford room for up to seven adults.

There are two new engines: the LR-TDV6 3.0 Advanced Sequential Turbo Diesel engine and the LR-V8 Petrol engine, both of which deliver increased performance, torque and economy.

The updated Terrain Response® system features a new, more conveniently located dial which provides optimum settings for all driving conditions.

New Discovery 4 has a host of new technology options including Portable Audio Interface, Surround Camera System and Automatic High Beam Assist.

Four-corner independent Air suspension delivers exceptional handling and ride qualities both on and off-road, and offers variable ride height flexibility for easier clearance, access and loading.

Interior

Overview

Tough luxury. The sumptuous, more tactile all-new interior of new Discovery 4 raises the bar of durable craftsmanship and comfort. Meticulous attention to design and detail is apparent throughout with premium materials and fine touches contributing to the vehicle's overall prestige.

Stadium-style seating and generous glass areas give panoramic views.

Ergonomic improvements make the interior more rewarding.

A third row of seats allows up to seven adults to travel in total comfort (optional on 2.7L TDV6).

The electrically adjusted seat bolsters and Windsor Leather provide improved comfort for driver and passengers (optional on 3.0L TDV6 HSE and standard on 5.0L V8).

Highly flexible seating

The flexible and functional interior is very accommodating. Up to seven adults can enjoy full-sized, forward-facing seats, generous legroom and wide-opening doors for easy access. Multiple seating configurations include one where the central seat in the middle row converts into a table and the ability to fold away both rows of rear seats provides a totally flat loading area.

Command driving position

New Discovery 4 features the legendary Land Rover Command driving position which gives better views of traffic and hazards, and helps parking and off-roading. With the controls intelligently located close to hand, it helps reduce stress and brings a greater sense of control.

Steering wheel

A new design incorporates a revised switch layout for driver data and remote audio controls, while more accessible control switches put information at the driver's fingertips. Items such as cruise control, Bluetooth® telephone connectivity and integration and heated steering wheel are also available dependant on the vehicle derivative.

Electric Parking Brake

Land Rover goes beyond the conventional handbrake lever with the easy Electric Parking Brake. Engaged by pulling a switch, it can be released manually or by simply driving away - thoughtful assistance for those tricky hill starts.

Passenger comfort

New Discovery 4's bold, innovative design and upright side profile ensure more head and shoulder room than in competitor vehicles. Stadium seating provides all occupants with clear views of the surrounding landscape.

Interior trims

Opting for leather or premium leather brings an extra cachet to the interior of the new Discovery 4. Interiors are Almond leather, complemented by an Arabica (brown tone), or Ebony leather. Two real wood veneer finishes, Grand Black Lacquer and Straight Grain Walnut, further enhance the interior when applied to the centre console and door panels. Cloth seats are also available in the 2.7L TDV6. To coordinate your exterior colour choice with the new interior trims, we recommend a number of combinations.

Climate control

Front Automatic Climate Control, featuring new heater and air conditioning controls with side to side temperature readings, is now standard on all Discovery 4 models.

Push Button Start

Standard on all vehicles, Push Button Start works without the key being docked in the vehicle. The optional Keyless Entry system, when used with the remote Smart Key, provides even greater convenience. When close to the vehicle, simply press to open the door, enter and push the Start button.

Driving

Overview

Advanced technology equips new Discovery 4 for almost any terrain. Terrain Response® allows the driver to reconfigure settings for optimum driveability on any surface while more confident and controlled descents are provided by the Hill Descent Control with the new Gradient Release Control. In addition, the Air suspension improves handling and helps provide a class-leading, car-like ride.

Terrain Response®

Terrain Response® enables new Discovery 4 to confidently conquer gravel, grass, snow, rocks, tarmac and more. Its new, more conveniently located dial lets the driver reconfigure the vehicle's engine, transmission, suspension, throttle and Traction settings to deliver maximum Traction. The new Sand Launch Control also helps to prevent wheel spin when moving from a standstill and delivers increased control in very low speed driving during Rock Crawl Pre-charge.

Hill Descent Control with Gradiant Release Control

The new patented Land Rover system works with Hill Descent Control to deliver controlled, confident descents on terrain like rock, gravel and sand. The added Gradient Release Control provides smoother, more gradual acceleration.

Electronic Air Suspension

The long travel, all independent suspension provides the driver with the benefits of extreme wheel articulation.

The four-corner, cross linked Air suspension delivers improved handling and a car-like ride and is standard on all models

Rocks and ruts aren't a problem as ride height can be raised up to 125mm to clear tricky obstacles or lowered by up to 50mm for easy access and loading. Ride height is also kept constant irrespective of the load, e.g. when towing a trailer.

Driving dynamics

Upgraded suspension geometry, including a new, stiffer anti-roll bar and updated variable ratio steering, improves on-road dynamics to give outstanding car-like handling and off-road driving agility. Larger diameter discs also give improved feel and performance to the brakes.

Dynamic Stability Control

Dynamic Stability Control delivers improved handling when accelerating or cornering as well as providing compensation for trailer towing. This advanced technology monitors the driving situation and applies the brakes to individual wheels helping to correct deviations from the driver's chosen line.

Trailer Stability Assist

This new system helps make towing safer by detecting trailer oscillations and then using selective braking to help correct a potentially hazardous situation.

Camera systems

Parking Aid - Rear View Camera (optional on 2.7L TDV6 and 3.0L TDV6 SE; standard on higher models) Working with the rear parking aid, the camera provides a rearward view on the Infotainment Touch-screen.

Surround Camera System (standard on 5.0L V8 and optional on all other models) Five digital cameras provide a near 360° view of the exterior to aid parking and off-road driving. Single camera or multiple camera images are viewed on the Infotainment Touch-screen. Functions include Rear View Camera, All Round Vision and Junction View. The system also has Tow Assist which predicts the direction of the trailer when reversing and Tow Hitch Assist for precise coupling.

Tow Assist

Tow Assist appears on the Infotainment Touch-screen whenever a trailer is attached, offering trailer set-up information such as trailer type, number of axles and trailer dimensions. It then predicts the path of the trailer when reversing and so aids manoeuvring. An additional feature of new Discovery 4 is Tow Hitch Assist which helps achieve precise coupling.

Safety

Overview

Key to new Discovery 4's strength, safety and outstanding on and off-road dynamics is the Integrated Body-frame™. A patented Land Rover technology, it delivers more comfort, refinement and on-road attributes than a monocoque design, and sets new standards for off-road performance.

Additional features include:

Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)

Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) which supplies crucial extra brake pressure in an emergency

Electronic Traction Control (ETC) which helps maintain optimum grip

Surround Camera System

Five digital cameras provide a near 360° view of the exterior on the Infotainment Touch-screen to assist in parking and off-road driving. The screen also gives vital views at 'blind' junctions and helps ensure drivers don't miss objects below their sightline. A further feature of the camera system is Tow Assist which helps drivers achieve accurate coupling.

Automatic High Beam Assist

To help make night driving more relaxed, the Automatic High Beam Assist system (optional on some models) monitors preceding and approaching traffic, and will change to low beam to avoid dazzling others.

Roll Stability Control and Dynamic Stability Control

No electronic system can eliminate the need for safe driving methods, but Roll Stability Control can help maintain control of the vehicle. It works in conjunction with Dynamic Stability Control and, if it senses the vehicle is approaching a tipping point, decreases engine power and uses the ABS system to reduce the chance of roll-over.

Eight airbags

New Discovery 4 has up to eight airbags. The front seats have both front and side airbags, with each row having its own curtain airbags.

Integrated Body-frame™

Command driving position

The higher perspective of the Land Rover Command driving position enables hazards to be spotted well ahead of time. It also aids parking as all four corners of the vehicle are clearly visible.

Perimetric detection system which alerts attempts to open the boot, bonnet or any doors
